Hackney Wick Station reopens

Hackney Wick New station

After months of works the station reopened on 25 May. The restoration work of Hackney Wick station is a part of a £25m regeneration scheme to improve passenger accessibility to the station as well as the local economy.

The design behind the new station has some history to it. Landolt Brown, the architect said ‘the new look is inspired by  the area’s industrial heritage’. The Hexagon fittings on a concrete wall in the station refer to the chemical formula for the world’s first plastic, parkesine which was first made commercially in a factory next to the station in 1866.

There is still work to be done on the station, but once completed it will provide a new pedestrian and cycle links from Hackney to Tower Hamlets. The station is expected to be completed in 2019.
